Looking back through the lens of the world-wide COVID-19 pandemic, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia’s 70th Anniversary Year of 2019, was an idyllic year of normalcy. It was a year of great accomplishment and of transition, as we prepared to say goodbye to our long-serving leader Dr. Frank H. McElroy, Jr. and as I prepared to take over leadership. 2019 was a capstone to Frank’s career guided by his scripture verse: Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” NKJV.
A month into my tenure as President and CEO, the war against coronavirus hit. Senior retirement and long-term care facilities have been at the heart of the battle because we serve the portion of the population most vulnerable to the virus. And, we are still there – fighting every day to keep our residents safe and healthy. With God’s help, we have had limited exposure and few deaths related to COVID-19.
Proverbs 3:5-6 is more poignant now than ever. As we go forward, we trust in God to make our path straight. I pledge to lead, always trusting in Him.
